The Challenge
Develop a campaign to launch Ariana Grande’s new album cycle.
The Creative Direction
As Ariana Grande closes the Eternal Sunshine era with her 2026 tour, her acclaimed role as Glinda in Wicked has simultaneously launched her into cinematic stardom. For the first time, Ariana exists fully between pop icon and movie star - creating the perfect moment to merge both worlds into one identity.
Act I: The 2026 Met Gala as Narrative Catalyst
The 2026 Met Gala’s Theme was Costume Art. Ariana arrives in a custom look inspired by René Magritte’s painting, “La Grande Guerre”, a visual wink hidden in plain sight.
The flower nods to her 6th album, Positions, where it functioned as a central symbol of the era.
The diamonds reference Swarovski as well as her signature hit “7 rings” merging art, fashion and brand alignment.
The umbrella subtly recalls her 2018 Sweetener era: from her intro “raindrops” to her VMA winning “no tears left to cry” visuals - an era Ariana has publicly named as one of her favorites.
Act II: The Fairytale Becomes Real
On the Met Gala stairs, a single high-heeled shoe is left behind.
In the days that follow, entertainment outlets report on the “missing shoe.” Speculation spreads and fans theorize which celebrity guest it belongs to.
That cultural moment brings Cinderella’s fairytale to the pop world reality. This classic fairytale narrative unfolding in real life helps to generate buzz and contribute to earned media (the best kind of media)!
Throughout the week, she remains silent, avoiding showing her shoes entirely. The absence becomes the message.
Act III: The Revelation
One week after the Met Gala, as the shoe conversation is still fresh, Ariana Grande posts a backstage picture revealing that the shoe belongs to her.
Captioned simply: “New single. ‘Spellbound’ out tonight”
Two weeks later, the full album follows. No explanation needed. The story has already been told!
